Christ. Campus. Kingdom.

CHRIST :

There is: one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all – Ephesians 4:5-6

The Wesley Foundation at ULM is centered upon Jesus Christ. He is the cornerstone of everything we are and everything we do. Over the years, one of the more commonly asked questions around Wesley is: where have you seen Christ this week? We believe that it is God’s plan to redeem the world through Jesus, and that we have an important role in that plan. We hold tightly to these ancient words found in the book of Esther – for such a time as this. This is indeed our time, and as Tolkien wrote: All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

CAMPUS:

Jesus told his disciples that they would be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.  We believe that the campus is our Jerusalem. On an average school year, there are 7-8K students enrolled at ULM. We understand that many of them have heard of Jesus, but we also know that many of them do not know him. Every student that we meet is created and loved by God, and we believe that we are here to prove that fact to them. We realize that we might be the only glimpse of Jesus some students ever see – and for some maybe only a passing glance at best. Therefore we watch our lives and doctrine closely, and we stand ready to give an answer for the hope we have…as we stand ready to flip a burger, hand out bottles of water, put students on kayaks, listen, pray, share, and love.

KINGDOM:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…

The transformation of the world is bold agenda, but it is our mandate as followers of Christ. At Wesley we understand that most of the time we operate in an 18-month window of opportunity with students. That’s about the average amount of time we actually have to be an influence in their lives.  We also realize that these years of students’ lives are vital because much of their life direction will be set while they are on our campus. Our ministry goal can be summed up in three words: Come, Grow, Serve. We bring them in, we build them up, and we send them out. Our students aren’t supposed to stay with us. We know that from the first time we meet them. If we can show them Christ and help them grown in their faith, we believe they will carry that faith into the world as the leave ULM. Our prayer is that the branches of the Wesley Tree will reach out with the grace and truth of Jesus, and help bring about God’s ultimate healing of the nations.
